The Beginning
(a very good place to start, but I never want to have to repeat it!)
This gallery presents encouragement to the aspiring dog enthusiast who has no experience or idea of how or where to start. These dogs are not in my breeding program and only represent a history of Troy Clifford Dargin's handling and grooming. It has taken me years to get to where I am but I enjoyed every minute of where I was when I was there. With diligence and hard work you can do the same thing. Dog showing is truly an art and a sport, not to be taken lightly. Are politics involved? Absolutely, but where is politics not involved? I truly believe that if you breed an EXCELLENT specimen, no judge (no matter how political), can dump you and I am proof of that! Judges really do want to be able to put up EXCELLENT dogs. That is why Owner-handlers must work harder than the professional. It would be hard to tell if I were an owner or a professional in the ring. The only clue is knowing that my name is on the dogs that I show. Take heart, you can do it! And if you are a seasoned enthusiast reading this, look below and have a laugh!!! We can truly love life when we can laugh at ourselves!

' , 'I remember using every wrong thing to keep this dog in coat. Sissy was my very first dog and represents everything that you can do if you do not study the breed. After I studied and worked with a handler I got better and so did my dogs. Sissy was my pet and hated the shows. Usually she moved around the ring with her tail between her legs. She certainly is a very poor representative of the breed but at that time I did not know this. I remember taking Best of Breed (there were no other dogs entered) and asking a friend to clap for me. I can not remember if they did or not but if they did good for them, because this is how mentoring takes place. A mentor has to encourage before learning takes place.'))
' , 'Judy Wilson of Prospect Hill kennels was such a great friend when I first started. I remember when I was 15 I went to California for the summer to study handling/grooming with Clive Harrold and I would call Judy and vent about how I missed good ole Iowa! I was in California away from friends and family over that summer and I dearly loved our conversations. I certainly did not do Judys dog any justice! Thank you Judy for letting me learn on this dog, I truly respect your friendship!'))
' , 'I was gaining knowledge by this time. I learned about bleaching the mustache. Or I thought I did. As you can tell I did not learn too much as the mustache hair has all fallen out, but I still beat one dog this day!'))
' , 'I remember planning the trip with my mother and grandfather when I was 16 to travel to Arkansas. At that point in my life a 10 hour trip was a long trip. We went to buy Kandy and another puppy from Kandy Jones. I remember Kandy Jones gave us directions from Mapquest (a new technology in 1994), and it took us through all the back roads, which in Arkansas means hill after hill. When I look back to these memories they are nothing but smiles. I do remember returning the second dog, Wicket, because of two other breeders opinion. Bad mistake, it was a very nice dog. I should have kept her but I was listening to others opinions then. Do not do this, as this is the number one mistake of newcomers. Do not go to everyone and ask their opinion of your dog. If you did not buy the dog from them why do you think they will have good things to say?'))
' , 'Kandy Kane is red and white and so is a candy cane. Kandy is taken from the breeders name, Kandy Jones! Like I said I was into name associations at the time. I like to name my dogs off the breeder that bred the dog! I put Kandy with 2 handlers and spent over $3000 for 4 points, which was a lot of money in 1996. It was no fault of the handler - they did great (they did a better job than I could), just a point of not competition at that time and knowing she was an average show dog. I was determined to finish the dog because I gave my word to the breeder so I took the dog and flew to Puerto Rico and built my own majors to finish her. My word is important to me. When I say something I mean it, and I expect the same from other people. We create our own reality by the words we speak. Words are useful but also dangerous. Use them sparingly!'))

' , 'Doughboy was a cutie. He was a sweet boy. I bred him to Tonya and got a dynamite dog named George.'))

I really grossed the judge out. Sorry! What we go through at the shows. Georgy had excellent movment and style. George is retired on the sofa of one of my friends mother. '))
